Today we read part of a plot summary of Faust in class.  Please finish reading it and do the questions for Monday.  Also have the terms lists completed.  Your character sketches and other writing should also be in by Monday.  Have a wonderful weekend.

September 26

Today with most of the class away, we looked at the example character sketch in your elements of the short story booklet.  Then I asked everyone to fix up their rough copies of their character sketches and their Tell Tale Heart tension paragraphs. I also passed out the word list for next week's quiz.  We will be starting a new story tomorrow.

September 20

Today we talked about The Tell Tale Heart and you had to annotate a section of the story in groups.  Only 2 groups had time to present so we will finish on Tuesday.  You should have the 2 paragraphs (or 1 long one) on the most tense or horrific part of the story done and handed in.  Also the two sided sheet on characterization and tension should also be in.  Have a great long weekend.

Today everyone was asked to read The Tell Tale Heart.  There is also going to be a quiz on the set of gothic fiction terms and list #4 tomorrow.  A chart was handed out with The Tell Tale Heart.  You should complete the chart but not do the questions.  Remember tomorrow is collaboration day.

Today we finished reading #13 and watched the rest of the movie.  We started working in groups to complete a short story worksheet.  We will continue this tomorrow.  It will be due on Monday for those at the band camp.

Here we are again in school.  We have been working on grammar and punctuation for the last couple of days and we will begin our short story unit once all the class changes are finished.  Please make sure you have completed the grammar booklet that we did in class.

Today we did a poetry pre-test and then had a quiz on terms list #8 and marked it. 

Your Lady of Shallot stuff should have been handed in today as well.

Today we read The Lady of Shallot.  You should also have handed in your Mockingbird essays.  Please have the Shallot stuff done for tomorrow.

Today we did an assignment on inference using the poem A Way Through the Woods.  You had to formulate questions, answer one in a paragraph and then comment on another person's paragraph.  After this we discussed the poem a little more.  Please catch up on any NHI work over the long weekend.  Have a great one.

May 16

Today we had a quiz on terms list #7.  We will have a quiz on terms list #8 next week.  After we marked it we went through the notes on annotating and then looked at a picture of a forest.  I asked you to annotate the picture with your thoughts and impressions.  After this, I read Kipling's Way Through the Woods and asked you to write down your impressions of the poem on the picture.  Finally, Mockingbird essays should be in tomorrow but Tuesday is fine.

May 14

Today we started  our poetry unit by looking at 2 poems.  Please complete the definition worksheet and the poem for tomorrow.  We will complete poetry terms lists 7 & 8 for the quiz on Thursday in class tomorrow.  Remember that your To Kill a Mockingbird Essays are due on Friday.

Today we did the unit final for Mockingbird.  Please have all your assignments in except the essay on Monday.  It would be good if a rough copy of your essay was done for Monday.  Have a great weekend.

May 9

Today we discussed the quotes to chapter 16 and I assigned the rest for homework.  Your unit exam is tomorrow.  Please get all the other missing worksheets done too.

May 8

Today was record sheet day.  After this we discussed the quotations in the booklet and practiced writing analyses for them.  Please have the analyses done to the end of quotation #16 for tomorrow.  The exam will be on Friday.

May 7

Today we talked a little more about the novel and about some of the stereotypes etc. that existed in the south at the time.  Please do the white trash question sheet for homework.  Also do all the small quotes and symbols sheets for tomorrow.  We will catch up on other stuff like the big quotations booklet tomorrow.

Today we watched the end of the Mockingbird movie.  Please get your quotes and symbols assignments in for tomorrow.  NO other homework.

Today people worked on the symbols assignment and their linking experiences and 3 points of view sheets.  We also started watching the Mockingbird movie.  Please have the symbols sheet done for Monday and the others if you did not hand them in already. Have a nice weekend.

Today we had a quiz on Mockingbird and then some time to work on the 3 points of view and the linking experiences sheets.  These are due tomorrow.  The symbols one is due on Monday.

April 30

Today we discussed chapters 13 and 15 of TKM and went over the T charts from yesterday.  Your points were all good but did not have enough evidence to support them.  Please add this to your T charts.  Then I handed out another sheet that we will do tomorrow.  Finally, I read a few short stories about the crimes committed by the KKK in the 1950's as examples to show what the lynch mob might have done to Tom.  No homework.

April 29

Today I handed out the quotations booklet. This is not due tomorrow.  I also handed out the characters as symbols sheet that we will finish tomorrow.  We discussed some of the quotations and I asked you to fill out a T chart that shows the Ewells on one side and Aunt Alexandra on the other.  Use the notes I gave out today to learn about the rules of  Southern Society.  Infer information from that and the book about Aunt Alexandra and the Ewells.  How do the rules affect them?  This is due tomorrow.

April 25

Today we had a very short period because of the talent show and report cards.  We discussed more of the symbolic elements in TKM and did a sheet on that.   The rest of the time was spent on the maps.  Maps are due on Monday.  Have a great weekend.

April 24

We talked a little about some of the major symbols int he novel and then had a little work time for the map project.  The quiz tomorrow will be on civil rights, Jim Crow, and background research on the depression.

April 23

Today was a work period for the Wanted Poster of Boo Radley and the new Map of Maycomb project.  The wanted poster is due on Thursday.  The Map is due on Monday after the long weekend.  There will be a quiz on Thursday about civil rights, Jim Crow, the Scotsboro boys and a few other things.

April 22

Today was record sheet day and then we discussed the first few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird.  Your reading journals should be in today.  I assigned a worksheet on provincialism and superstition.  Please have these done for tomorrow.  I also assigned a wanted poster about Boo Radley.  This will be due later this week.

April 19

Today we listened to a short interview about To Kill a Mockingbird and I handed out some notes on Harper Lee etc.  We also did a vocabulary sheet.  No homework was assigned except to get the Mockingbird reading journal finished and handed in for Monday.    Have a good weekend.

Today we saw the last of the movie and people finished their movie questions.  The Mockingbird journals will be due on Monday now.

Today we continued to watch the movie.  You will have some time to finish your questions tomorrow.  Also your reading journals are due on Friday.  No quiz tomorrow.

Today we heard the last of the connections projects and we did a self-evaluation essay in class.  Tomorrow we will start a unit on To Kill a Mockingbird.  Thursday will be the final unit exam for short stories.

Today we had some connections presentations.  We will finish these tomorrow.  Your Short Story Unit exam will be on Thursday.  Our next unit will be on the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Welcome Back!  I hope your Spring Break was awesome.
Today we saw the first Prezi assignments.  The rest are due tomorrow. I also gave some class time to work on the connections project that was given out before the break.  These need to be completed by the end of the week.  We will be having a quiz on terms (gothic and otherwise) on Thursday.

Today we discussed the story "The Book" and I handed out the "Brighton Road" and the connections project sheet.  You must complete your online assignments including the first Prezi by the end of Spring Break.  You will have a little bit of time after the break to complete your connections project.  Any NHI assignments need to be completed over the break.  Have a great Spring Break.

Today we read North End Faust and you were to complete a comparison sheet looking at the similarities and differences between that and Faust.  Remember that there is a quiz on gothic terms tomorrow.  Your Faust pictorial plot summary is due by Friday.

We did the list 5 quiz today.  We will mark it tomorrow.  Please don't finish the Faust assignments as we will spend some time in class on those.  They will be due on Monday now.

Today we did a quick review of the terms for list #5.  The quiz on that is tomorrow.  We also watched a part of a movie about Faust.  Then I had you read a plot summary of Faust and assigned two things: an argument (written) and a visual plot summary).  These will be due on Friday.

Today we watched the end of #13 and had a brief discussion about the story.  Your summary and other sheets are due tomorrow. The quiz this week is on list #5.

Today we went over context clues and how to write a summary.  Then I handed out the story #13.  You have to read it and write a 1 page summary.  You also have to complete a story chart, a symbol chart, a setting chart and character chart for Tuesday.  Your Blue Boots vs Tell Tale Heart essay is due Monday.   Have a nice weekend.

Today we did a quiz on list #4 and marked it.  Then we had time to work on the Blue Boots/Tell Tale Heart Essay.  This is due on Monday.

Feburary 27

Today we watched 2 versions of Tell Tale Heart and had a short pop quiz.  Then I handed out the writing assignment that is due on Monday.  Please have your character analysis done for tomorrow (Blue Boots).  The quiz is on list #4 terms.  You should have some time to work on the essay after the quiz.

February 26

Today we did a pop quiz on the Blue Boots.  Then we talked about it for a while.  After that, I assigned a character analysis using PEE model.  Make sure you include 4 traits and evidence.  I also passed out the Tell Tale Heart.  Please read that for tomorrow and get the traits worksheet done.  The quiz is on Thursday on list #4 and the written analysis will be due then too.

February 25

Today I handed out new terms lists.  Please have the definitions done for lists 4 and 5 for tomorrow.  I collected Romeo and Juliet and assigned new text books. We went over the additional gothic terms in class and watched a short video to begin to recognize these characteristics.  You were to hand in your Romeo and Juliet essays today.  Please read the story Blue Boots for tomorrow.

February 21

Today we marked the magic squares exercise and all the quotations and then watched more of the movie.
Tomorrow we have the unit final which is a scantron test so bring a pencil and eraser.  You will also need to bring your essay because I want to see an outline before you leave tomorrow.  The essay is due on Monday.

February 19

Today we marked the Act 5 questions and the calendar.  Then we watched the Reduced Shakespeare company version of Romeo and Juliet and started watching the modern movie.  Finally, I handed out more quotations sheets, a vocab puzzle and the final essay topics.  The worksheets are due Thursday.  The essay is due Monday and the unit final exam will likely be Thursday.  We will continue with the movie tomorrow.

Well this is the first time I have posted a message here in quite a while.  I hope to make this a regular thing for the rest of the semester.  Today we finished reading Romeo and Juliet and you were asked to complete the calendar and the questions for Act 5 for tomorrow.  Your final exam on the play will likely be on Thursday.
